Coleton grew up coming to Camp Bear Creek throughout his childhood and is back for his fourth summer on summer staff. He’s joining us again on leadership staff as a Unit Director. Coleton works really hard at camp because he wants to be part of “helping re-create the experiences I had when I was a camper for the children attending now. I also want to be part of creating a positive environment for the staff to grow.” Camp Bear Creek isn’t his only camp experience. Coleton has also worked for the YMCA camp in Dubuque.
He grew up in Galesville, Wisconsin but currently lives and works in Dubuque, Iowa. Coleton is known around camp for his love of crocs. He says, “I like to only wear crocs and this will be my fourth summer wearing the same pair.” Will they survive another summer? We’ll find out! In his free time, Coleton likes to play video games and walk his dog. He’s also working on creating his own video game. You’ll have to ask him about it when you see him! A fun fact about Coleton: he hates mushrooms. If you put mushrooms on his plate, he’s steering clear!
Coleton connects best to God in Bible study and prayer. He says, “I enjoy being able to set aside a particular time where connecting to God is my main focus.” Part of why he loves coming back to camp year after year is that it feels like a dedicated time for him to grow in his relationship with God as he helps campers and staff do the same.
Coleton’s favorite Bible verse is Job 1:21: “And he said, ‘Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.'”
