Gael Melchy Calderon

Gael is from a little town in México called Tlaxcala, known for its unique culture and traditions originating from the Spanish settlers in that region. He attends Universidad de las Américas Puebla where he is studying Mechatronics Engineering. He has traveled all around the world and visited fifteen different countries! We are so honored that he has chosen to return here to Camp Bear Creek for a second summer.

In his free time, Gael likes to run, exercise, box, and as he puts it, “get lost in the music.” He is a wonderful singer and musician and you can even find some of his music on Spotify! He loves the chance to help lead and participate in worship here at Camp Bear Creek. His faith is important to him, and Gael says, “I love to pray alone in my room after the day, before going to sleep. I just close my eyes and start praying and talking with God. When I wake up, I thank God for giving me the opportunity of living one day more.”

One of the best parts of camp for Gael is having the chance to share his culture with the campers and other staff. He also enjoys the chance to lead Bible study and share the Word of God with kids at camp. He’s so excited to come back and says, “Last year was awesome! Everybody was very nice. I love all the games we played, but I have one that’s my favorite: Banana Tag! I love it so much! I can wait to be back and see familiar faces and enjoy playing at the pool.” Looking forward to this summer, Gael hopes that campers are just as excited as he is. “We’ll dive into cool topics, explore new ideas, and have loads of fun along the way. Get ready for an adventure you won’t forget!”

Gael’s favorite Bible verse is Jeremiah 29:11: “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'”
