Michael

Michael is originally from Benoni, South Africa but moved to Perth Australia with his family. He can’t wait to join us here at Camp Bear Creek this summer! “I am looking forward to experiencing what America is like and making life long friends. I am hoping that this experience will help me grow as a person to enable any future life experiences that lie ahead.” His mix of South African and Australian upbringing means he has a very interesting accent, and Michael also admits that he has a bit of a dry sense of humor!

Michael graduated from St. Mark’s Anglican Community School. In his free time, he likes to play field hockey and touch rugby. Maybe he’ll be able to teach you one of those sports this summer! He also enjoys camping and thrives on being outside whenever possible, so we know that camp life is going to be a great fit for him!

Late night walks are one of Michael’s favorite ways to connect with God. “I feel like at that time it’s just us two and I can say what’s on my mind and ask for help, without disturbing others.” He’s been to other camps before, and as he got into his late teens, he did a lot of hiking tours where they would hike from one site to the next and set up camp every day. He can’t wait to experience a summer with us at Camp Bear Creek. He says, “I’ve got the Beat of Africa, Heart of Australia and love of all people.”

Michael’s favorite Bible verse is Ecclesiastes 3:1: “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”
