Tom

Tom is from DeSoto, Iowa and is a student at the University of Northern Iowa where he is a Religious Studies major. He is minoring in Philosophy and Ethics. This will be his first time at Camp Bear Creek, but Tom says he’s heard good things and he’s excited to be part of what we are doing this summer. He says, “I get to be a part of the work God is doing in our world. I get to be at the front lines of the movements of our Maker. What could possibly be better than that?”

In his free time, Tom enjoys pretty much any form of physical exercise (weightlifting, running, swimming, rucking, pickleball, etc.). He does a lot of rock climbing at UNI, and he’s looking forward to the rock wall and zip lines this summer! Tom likes to read, and he’s also really close with his family. He has a twin (fraternal), and he likes to spend time with his twin brother, older brother, older sister, and sister-in-law. He recently bought a typewriter, and that has become a new hobby!

Tom’s favorite way to connect with God is in quiet times of personal bible study and prayer. “I enjoy getting up early and spending time with God before I start my day.” He’s excited about being part of a Christian community at camp this summer. “Getting to tell kids about Christ and how to grow in relationship with God is going to be really rewarding, for me and those I have the privilege of serving.”

Tom’s favorite Bible verse is Zechariah 13:9:

“I will bring that group through the fire
    and make them pure.
I will refine them like silver
    and purify them like gold.
They will call on my name,
    and I will answer them.
I will say, ‘These are my people,’
and they will say, ‘The Lord is our God.'”
