Tyler

Tyler was born and raised in Washington, Iowa. He is a student at Iowa State where he is majoring in Architecture. Ever since fourth grade, Tyler has been a multi-sport athlete. “I participated in five different sports in elementary school and continued with four throughout middle and high school, including archery, track, cross country, and baseball.” Surprisingly, despite all of his athletics, he’s never broken a bone, although he did once have to have surgery after getting bit by a spider! You’ll have to ask him to tell you the story!

In his free time, Tyler has a lot of different interests. “I enjoy running regularly, going on random adventures with friends, showing and owning dairy cattle, working in my family’s garden, and constantly seeking new challenges. I’ve embraced the idea of being a ‘jack of all trades,’ which has led me to try things like volleyball—even if it’s just been casual games with friends. I’m also drawn to music, drawing, and reading; honestly, anything that sparks my interest tends to become a hobby or a meaningful way I spend my time.”

Tyler attended Camp Bear Creek as a camper for eight summers. He says, “I still remember the friendships formed in less than a week. Even if I don’t see those people again, I’ve come to understand that God continues to work through those moments in my life.” His favorite way to connect with God is through relationships with others, although he loves to explore the many facets of worship and discipleship. “I also connect with God in many ways—through singing, writing, dancing, praying, and Bible study. I see this as an extension of my ‘jack of all trades’ mindset: if God is everything, why not celebrate Him in every way?”

Tyler is very excited to join us as a counselor this summer. “I hope to create the same joy and lasting memories that I experienced as a camper. I want to build meaningful connections between campers and friends—relationships that bring us closer to God together.”

Tyler’s favorite Bible verse is Matthew 28:20: “I am with you always.” He says, “Some people come into your life for only a season, while others stay longer, but the Lord endures through all seasons and challenges, walking beside us in our journey. I hold tightly to God’s word, often reflecting on different verses as life moves forward, but I always return to this verse.”
