Growing Faith Camp Staff

Praying for the Summer Staff

By Stacie Hoppman March 28, 2024

There are a lot of reasons why a young adult might choose to work at camp for a summer. For many, this is a chance to flex and lean into skills they’ll need for future careers. They might be pursuing jobs in education, ministry, or exercise science, and the daily life of camp provides great experience as they learn to work with kids, teach different skills and activities, and lead Bible study and worship every day.

There’s often also, a spiritual component or desire behind the decision to work at camp. These young people are looking to grow in their faith and in sharing their faith with others. They are seeking to build their relationship with God, their understanding of how to live practically into what they believe, and how to apply the Bible to their daily lives.

We often tell them that working at summer camp is not for the faint of heart. This job requires commitment – commitment of time, of attention, and of care. They work day in and day out in the summer heat and rain, in the mud and the messiness, in the joy and the celebration, making sure that each child who comes to camp is seen, cared for, and valued. It can be a physically and emotionally demanding job, but also one of the most rewarding things that they will ever do. If you’ve worked at camp before, you know exactly what we are talking about.

We believe that they don’t do this alone. God is here in this place, in the ministry, and in their dedication and laboring. Would you join us in praying for them and the work that they will be doing? Here are some things to pray for our summer staff:

  • Pray that they would feel equipped and ready. We spend two weeks training them and teaching them so that when kids arrive on site, they can lead with confidence.
  • Pray that they would be able to set aside outside distractions and really lean into the life and ministry of camp.
  • Pray that they would have energy even when the days are long and they are tired. Pray that God would uplift and uphold them.
  • Pray that they would not only have a positive, formational impact on their campers, but that God would offer them little glimpses of the difference they are making along the way.
  • Pray that they would also grow in devotion and love for Jesus as they help shepherd the campers in their care each week.

Thank you for partnering with us in prayer and support as we head into this summer season. Have you had the chance to meet our staff yet? If not, click here!
