Leo is from Oregon, Illinois and attends Olivet Nazarene University where he is studying Psychology. He didn’t grow up attending summer camp as a kid, but he always heard stories from his friends about all of their amazing experiences. He always wanted to be able to go, and now he’s excited to attend his first summer camp as a counselor!
In his free time, Leo likes to stay active. He enjoys climbing, disc golf, pickleball, and weightlifting. He’s pretty good at handstands. In fact, he’s walked the entire length of a football field on just his hands! Perhaps he’ll give you a demonstration when you’re at camp. Leo also enjoys playing guitar, video games, and drawing. Fun fact: Leo usually eats the entire apple – including the core! He says that he is usually too lazy to throw it away, so he just eats the whole thing!
This summer, Leo says, “I’m most looking forward to building connections with others while at camp. I am excited to have fun each day while in a Christ-centered community!” His favorite way to connect with God is through reading his Bible and studying the history of God’s people, looking at how they worshipped and followed Jesus. Leo says, “Reading literature about what it means to be Christ-like allows me to strengthen the way I go about building my relationship with Christ.” His message to campers and parents: “I am stoked to be at Camp Bear Creek! I can’t wait to get to know you this summer!”
Leo’s favorite Bible verse is Job 42:17: “And Job died, an old man, full of days.” Leo explains, “While this is probably not a typical favorite verse, the last verse of the story of Job reminds me that during arguably the worst tribulation ever recorded, Job stays faithful to God. A part of the story of Job that I think is often overlooked is God’s restoration of Job’s earthly possessions. Because of his faith, he is given double of what
he lost, and lived 140 more years of a prosperous, god-fearing life (42:10-16). This verse reminds me to put faith in God no matter my circumstance, whether good or bad, and to always focus on my relationship with him.”
