Leo Vivanco Escamilla

Leo has been playing soccer since he was seven years old. It is his favorite sport and he’s a very good player. He loves all kinds of sports and can’t wait to join us here at camp. If you’re looking to brush up on some soccer techniques or learn some new skills, Leo is definitely your guy! He joins us all the way from Pachuca de Soto Hidalgo, Mexico. However, Leo is used to living away from home. He spent three years living in San Luis Potosí, a city in Mexico far from his home and family, while he played for a soccer team there.

Leo is a student at UCLAH (Universidad Científica Latino Americana de Hidalgo). He first heard about Camp Bear Creek when his brother Saul worked with us last summer. Leo loved hearing all the stories and decided to apply to be a camp counselor himself. This summer, he and Saul will join us on staff as counselors. In his free time, Leo likes to play soccer (of course), watch movies, play with his pets, and hang out with his family. His favorite way to connect with God is through prayer and singing.

Even though this is his first summer at Camp Bear Creek, Leo did have the chance to attend a camp in his city when he was ten years old. They had swimming, soccer, sports, and crafts like jewelry making. Looking forward to this summer, Leo says, “I hope to learn as much as possible from the people at camp. I hope they can learn something about me, create good memories as a group and, above all, be better every day to help others grow too.”

Leo’s favorite Bible verse is Joshua 1:9: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
