Maggie

Maggie is from Ottumwa, Iowa and attends Luther College where she is studying Elementary Education. Camp seemed like the perfect place for her to get some experience working with kids before she begins her career as a teacher. She hasn’t been to sleep away camp since she was seven years old, but she remembers it as being a wonderful experience. Even though she hasn’t been to Camp Bear Creek, Maggie has worked at day camps before. She’s ready and excited to jump into the overnight camp world!

In her free time, Maggie likes to be creative, whether that looks like cooking, dancing, or singing. She likes to spend time with friends and be outside, so we know she’s going to fit right into the camp environment! One fun fact about Maggie: she has a solid yellow belt in judo and jujitsu! You’ll have to ask her how close that is to a black belt when you meet her. She also knows how to tap dance. Maybe she can teach you a move or two!

Maggie’s favorite way to connect with God is being alone and having one-on-one time with God. It’s a great way for her to pray and just center her thoughts on God. She is excited to be at Camp Bear Creek and to grow in her faith this summer. She says, “I am looking forward to trying something new! I love being outdoors and I love working with children, so this is the perfect opportunity!” Maggie has extensive experience working with kids, whether that has looked like babysitting her two younger brothers or other kids or working at day camps and in daycare centers. She wants to reassure parents that she will be a fantastic counselor. “I am always there to listen and talk to your child whenever they want! I am also very compassionate and kind, so I will always be there for your child no matter what.”

Maggie’s favorite Bible verse is John 13:34: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”
