Sandi, a Council Bluffs native, grew up attending First Congregational church UCC and participating in youth activities including summer camps, National Youth events, and international youth group activities. After graduating from the University of Iowa with a BBA in Human Resources, she and her husband, Mike, lived in Minneapolis for three years. Then, after a four year stint in Cedar Rapids, they moved to Muscatine where they have lived for the past 27 years. Mike and Sandi have three adult children; two are married, one is engaged, and they have one grandchild.

After spending several years as a full-time mom and volunteer, Sandi returned to school to earn a teaching degree and Gifted and Talented endorsement. She taught first grade and gifted and talented students in Muscatine schools before retiring. Now she is a guest teacher and loves the flexibility of substituting for the schools.

For Sandi, summer meant church camp, although she did not have the opportunity to attend Camp Bear Creek as a child. “It is because of those weeks spent growing spiritually, as well as expanding my view of God’s world, that I feel passionate for volunteering and helping others in any area that I can,” says Sandi.

She has been a member of First Presbyterian Church of Muscatine for over 18 years. During that time she has been active with the youth, teaching Sunday School, going on seven youth mission trips around the United States as well as two trips to Haiti to serve at Mission Starfish. She is active in the music ministry of the church and directs the Handbell Choir. Sandi is also on the Emmaus Board as an elder.

Sandi enjoys staying active. An avid biker, she is a seven-time RAGBRAI rider. She loves to travel in the US and overseas. She is drawn to water sports – paddle boarding, kayaking, pontoon, water skiing, swimming, and snorkeling are all favorite pastimes.

Sandi looks forward to being part of the Bear Creek Board and helping to sustain and improve this special camp where all can experience God’s presence and grow their faith.
